The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate among developed countries. More info on the data can be found here. In addition, the U.S. is the only developed country that does not guarantee paid maternity leave for all parents.
Current U.S. Policies for parental leave include the 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA): "employers with 50 or more workers provide 12 weeks of unpaid leave annually", The Federal Employee Paid Leave Act, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), and some State programs.
